Spray Painting Hydrangeas - DIY Project
Recently I was asked to make some bouquets for an anniversary party. However they wanted gold flowers in the bouquet since that was of the party theme colors. As some of you might know naturally occurring true gold flowers are not exactly easy to find. Sure there are some spectacular yellow flowers out there but gold is a different story. So I thought hmm I have all these dried hydrangeas from last season maybe I could spray paint them?
I googled it and turns out it's a thing so here we are! This project turned out super cool and was really quick and easy (not to mention cheap!!). Plus it's super customizable as you can do this to pretty much any dried flower and with any colors of spray paint.
In this tutorial I'll be using the Rust Oleum metallic gold spray paint but you can really use whatever color you want.
Next I just took a cardboard box and looked some holes in with a stem sized awl. Once I had made quite a few holes in the top of the box I moved to my backyard where the spray paint wouldn't get everywhere and put all of my stems in the holes. Next you simply take the spray paint and spray. This really is quite a simple project but with stunning results. You can spray as much or as little as possible as you want on the flowers. If you want a more solid gold look you can spray more or use a higher coverage spray paint. However I liked a more gold-dusted look that allowed some of the natural color to show though, but still looked metallic when the light shine on it.Let me know if you followed this tutorial and made your own hydrangeas!
