My 2022 Garden Layout!!
Planning my flower garden each year is a hard but fun task, especially if your like me and have a habit of buying way more flower seeds than can actually fit in your garden! Each year though I am determined to plant as many flowers as I can, sneaking them in corners all around the yard. In this article I'll take you through where most of my flowers will be located and share some of the seeds I'm especially excited to grow this season.
In my garden I grow a variety of flowers, vines, ornamental grasses, fruits, vegetables, herbs, bulbs, annuals, perennials, and shrubs. All of this somehow has to fit in and around my yard!
The majority of my annuals are housed in a single raised garden bed and a strip of land in my front yard. This is made possible by compact gardening. Compact gardening is essentially ignoring all package directions and cramming as many plants in a small space as you can. For small-scale growers like myself who have limited space this method works out pretty well as I don't need an absurd amount of each flower and a thin strip of each species that grows abundantly works pretty well. However, if you are growing many of the same flower or you want to grow taller plants in the same bed as drastically smaller ones this might not be the method for you.
As for perennials I don't grow nearly as many as I do annuals and the majority of them are hydrangeas and daffodils. My hydrangea's are grown around the house in the front yard landscaping. My daffodils are grown for the most part in long thin strips along my fence.
My fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown in a separate raised garden bed and a lot of pots. Most of my dried grasses this year will be in with my annuals and along my fence. As for my shrubs and bushes most of these are in my front yard in the landscaping. My climbing flowers will be on trellis's by my raised garden beds.
As for varieties I'm excited about this season well... all of them! But in particular I'm very excited for the "Rubensa Cosmos" from Johnny's Selected Seeds, the "Mammoth Choice Mix Sweet Peas" from Johnny's Selected Seeds, and the "Spanish Eyes Black-eyed Susan Vine" from Botanical Interests all of which are new varieties I'm trying out for the first time this growing season.
Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for more posts on the upcoming growing season!!
